enhance trailblazer celebration event blog

Anna Sage, Education and Training Senior Project Manager from the national enhance team at NHS England was proud to attend the South-West enhance trailblazer celebration event at the end of June.

This event was a showcase for the first cohort of enhance participants at the Gloucestershire trailblazer site, whose focus was on improving homeless health during their year on the course. The event brought together regional and national colleagues involved in delivering the Gloucestershire enhance programme, including health and care professionals from the area to reflect on and celebrate the impact of the achievements.

A highlight of the day was a wonderful display of learners’ posters showcasing a broad range of Quality Improvement projects (QIP). For example, one project theme centred around improving access to a new community health and social care partnership team working with individuals experiencing homelessness. The project highlighted how offering more specialised support services for vulnerable women attending the local emergency department is both reducing unwarranted urgent care admissions and improving patient reported outcome measures.

It was a privilege to meet so many enthusiastic colleagues and hear about everything the South-West trailblazer has achieved to date. Reflecting on the celebration event, it perfectly illustrated the aim of enhance - to equip all healthcare professionals with the additional generalist skills required to deliver excellent person-centred care across the evolving complexities of the health and care system. The importance of which was emphasised in the recent NHS Long Term Workforce Plan, mandating that the enhance programme be expanded to embed the benefits of a more generalist approach across healthcare education and training.

We look forward to seeing what the next cohort of enhance participants goes on to achieve in the year ahead, as we evaluate the ongoing impact of the enhance programme across England.
