Medical Education Leaders Foundation sharing event blog

(Published 14 April 2023)

Dr Helen Johnson and Dr Alison Sheppard from the national enhance team at NHSE were proud to attend and have an abstract accepted for a poster at the Medical Education Leaders UK Foundation sharing event at the end of March. The 1-day conference in Birmingham was an annual four nation event held in conjunction with the UKFPO to share good practice in Foundation training. The event brought together regional and national colleagues involved in delivering the Foundation programme along with a number of Foundation doctors to share their experiences and innovative ideas.

The enhance programme is currently being piloted by seven trailblazer sites across England, with Foundation doctors taking part in the North-West and the East of England regions. Our poster on the topic of ‘Enhancing generalist skills: the enhance enable programme in Foundation’ highlighted learning from the programme to date and details of how the enhance programme will be offered to all Foundation doctors from August 2023.

Our key poster message was that the enhance programme is a free evidence based postgraduate educational development offer that aligns with the Foundation programme curriculum. It supports learners to develop and demonstrate attitudes, skills and behaviours that evidence meeting the holistic Foundation competencies. enhance also provides learners with contextual leadership skills and certification which will be beneficial and transferable to clinical work and specialty job applications.
