The programme started as a pilot for pre-registration pharmacist training in general practice in 2019, with the first cohort beginning their placements in July/August 2019. Trainees recruited on the programme spent three to six months of structured training experience in general practice in conjunction with a hospital or community pharmacy pre-registration programme.
Over 100 trainees were recruited across England in 2019/20.
Significant work has also taken place to support the host sites in the development of their placements, including the development of an education framework.
A second year of the programme was agreed to commence in Summer 2020. Expressions of interest for sites were sought in early 2019 and over 200 placements agreed which were recruited to as part of the Oriel national recruitment system.
Expressions were sought in January 2020 from employers wishing to host a trainee in 2021. Over 500 places will be available for trainees commencing their pre-registration year in 2021. You can find more information for employers on the HEE website or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
