The first Pan-London Public Health Practitioner Registration Scheme was launched in 2017 to support public health practitioners in London to gain registration with the UKPHR and 48 places were filled.
A joint London and Kent Surrey Sussex scheme in 2018/19, building on the great success of previous programmes in both regions, provided a further 36 places using economies of scale from Regional HEE funding and the Academy.
If you would like to register your interest on the London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex scheme, or would like to be an assessor or verifier, you can contact phworkforcedevelopment@kent.gov.uk. You can also find out more information on the UKPHR website.
These schemes support public health practitioners gain registration with the UKPHR and ensure key public health skills remain embedded within the core public health workforce.
The Academy is also working across London and Kent, Surrey and Sussex to develop and finalise practitioner development strategies to support the continuing professional development of practitioners outside of the registration scheme and will support implementation of these strategies for 2019/20 to 2022/23.
Responding to a need to make key public health competencies available more widely; work also commenced in 2017 to develop a range of tools and resources transferable to all geographies with UKPHR.
This includes:
- An online Introduction to the Practitioner Registration Scheme
This is in collaboration with the UKPHR and will be available on their website - A Visual Tool to help navigate the different registration schemes available to the public health workforce
The Public Health Competency Framework is available on the UKPHR website - A series of public health masterclasses
These ran from January to April and are currently being evaluated
