My Intern Story - Day in the life of a café worker

Written by Jenna

Hi my name is Jenna and I work in a café that is part of Sodexo in the Women's and Children's hospital doing different jobs.

These jobs include making drinks for customers including lattes, americano, mocha, cappuccinos, hot chocolate and much more.

I also do the Jacket potato's, toasties, panni.

I serve customers and refill the crisps and pop when they are running low. I refill the sugar packets, sweeteners, and the milk sachets when they are gone or running low.

I am at the cafe 4 days a week. When it gets to 12, we stop serving toast and toasted teacakes and get everything ready for the Jacket potatoes. I wipe down the tables after customers have gone and I sort the bins out. Before serving the Jacket potatoes I had to check the temperature of them to make sure they were over 75 degrees.

I want to thank all my mentors for helping me, being kind-hearted and checking up on me whilst I learnt all the new tasks.

I have really liked working in the café. I have met lots of new people and the staff have taught me so much.

I have learnt better communication skills, how to deal with customer in a calm way and I have learnt to have a work routine.

Project Choice means everything to me because I can now apply for jobs on my own.

My confidence has risen, so now I want to apply for jobs.
