NHS England foundation trainee pharmacist programme: E-portfolio from 2025/26

All training sites in England must use the NHS England foundation trainee pharmacist programme (FTPP) e-portfolio.

The e-portfolio must be used by the trainee pharmacist and their supervisors to record completion of the NHS England practice based assessment strategy, the associated activities, assessments and sign-off processes.

The 2025/26 NHS England foundation trainee pharmacist programme e-portfolio is provided by the royal pharmaceutical society (RPS) powered by axia digital.

There will be two versions instances of the e-portfolio, both supporting use and recording of the NHS England FTPP practice-based assessment strategy. The two versions are:

  • the full learning outcomes e-portfolio – For foundation trainee pharmacists who have graduated against the 2021 General Pharmaceutical Council initial education and training standards for pharmacist learning outcomes. Trainees will be assessed against the full learning outcomes including independent prescribing and will register as a pharmacist with independent prescriber annotation on successful completion of the programme
  • the interim learning outcomes e-portfolio – foundation trainee pharmacists who have graduated against the 2011 GPhC learning outcomes, and overseas pharmacists’ assessment programme (OSPAP) graduates. Trainees will be assessed against the interim learning outcomes and will register as a pharmacist on successful completion of the programme

Trainees and their supervisors will be allocated to the appropriate version of the e-portfolio, based on the course the trainee has graduated from.

E-portfolio access

All trainees, designated supervisors and designated prescribing practitioners will be provided access to the e-portfolio.

NHS England will contact each training site, requesting that all supervisors complete the NHS England FTPP supervisor registration form. After completion of the supervisor registration form, each supervisor will be set up with e-portfolio access and contacted directly with their log in details.

The supervisor registration form can also be directly accessed here.

Timelines for providing access to the e-portfolio are as follows:

  • supervisors will be provided access to the e-portfolio prior to the trainee starting
  • trainees will be provided access in the week they start and will then be linked to their supervisors

Requests for changes to e-portfolio access

If there is a change of supervisor(s) during the programme, a FTPP change form must be completed, and new supervisors must register with the programme.

If there are any changes to foundation trainee pharmacists details (for example, email address, start date, end date) the trainee will need to complete a FTPP change form.

E-portfolio online training sessions

Introduction to the NHS England foundation trainee pharmacist programme e-portfolios

NHS England in collaboration with the RPS will be providing three online training sessions to introduce the NHS England FTPP e-portfolio for the 2025-26 foundation training cohort.

These sessions provide an overview of how the e-portfolio directly supports the use of the NHS England FTPP practice-based assessment strategy, demonstrate key functions, outline the resources, and support available during the course of the year.

Each session will be recorded and hosted on the RPS website.

E-portfolio resources and support

Access to resources that support use of the e-portfolio will be available on the NHS England FTPP learning hub catalogue.
