East region’s enhanced induction is supporting international doctors

19 April 2022

A newly launched enhanced induction for international doctors starting in the region has received overwhelming support from attendees after its pilot session last month.

The first event took place virtually on Thursday 10 March 2022 with almost 50 attendees joining. The aim of the induction was to provide a consistent and effective introduction to the NHS in the region for our international medical graduates, no matter which specialty or trust.

Colleagues who attended the event were asked to provide feedback with 84% participants agreeing that the induction met their primary objectives for attending, and 95% indicating that the induction had either a high or moderate impact.

Attendees offered their comments:

Thank you so much for the impactful session

Very informative, useful, great practical advice

I am pleased to have attended this session.  It is very informative and enlightening.  Looking forward to more in the future.

As a region, the east of England supports HEE’s aim to provide a welcoming, effective and inclusive learning environment for all.  In support of this, the advancing equity reporting subgroup have developed the multi-specialty enhanced induction for recently started - or soon to be starting - international doctors including trainees, locally employed doctors (LEDs) and specialty and specialist grade doctors (SAS) who have not worked in the NHS before.

The programme for the day included a variety of presentations and workshops, including a ‘Welcome to UK practice’ session run by the GMC.

Due to the success of the pilot, and high demand for places, a second induction event on 21 April 2022.

Colleagues across the region are asked to share the link to more information and registration details.
