Enhanced induction to support arriving international doctors

18 October 2022

A new online enhanced induction session has been confirmed for Thursday 8 December to support doctors arriving from overseas.

The aim of the session is to provide consistent and effective introduction to the NHS in the region for our international medical graduates, no matter which specialty or trust.

Following the successful launch of the enhanced inductions in March, sessions have been running throughout the year.

The first event took place virtually on Thursday 10 March with almost 50 attendees joining. Since then, there have been three further induction events welcoming 207 doctors.

Colleagues who attended the event were asked to provide feedback with 97% participants agreeing that the induction met their primary objectives for attending, and 93% indicating that the induction had either a high or moderate impact.

Attendees offered their comments:

This is a very helpful program that every IMG should go through before they start their career in the UK

It's a really important workshop. I wish everybody should go through before starting work or within first month of work as it gives more confidence and clarity.

As a region, the east of England supports HEE’s aim to provide a welcoming, effective and inclusive learning environment for all.  In support of this, the advancing equity reporting subgroup have developed the multi-specialty enhanced induction for recently started - or soon to be starting - international doctors including postgraduate doctors in training, locally employed doctors (LEDs) and specialty and specialist grade doctors (SAS) who have not worked in the NHS before.

The programme for the day includes a variety of presentations and workshops, including a ‘Welcome to UK practice’ session run by the General Medical Council (GMC).

Register for the enhanced induction on Thursday 8 December here.

Colleagues across the region are asked to share the link to more information and registration details.
