National Apprenticeship week - Rebecca Pharani

13 February 2023

Rebecca PharaniTo celebrate national apprenticeship week were spoke with Rebecca Pharani.

My name is Rebecca, I am a third-year apprentice and student representative at the University of Hertfordshire.

What I gain from my apprenticeship is development of leadership skills and learning about the impact of wider projects. I am always interested in trying new things and being challenged. I have worked in a variety of clinical roles over the last 10 years with a many different patients but had not had to opportunity to explore leadership.

I am usually based on an inpatient neurological rehabilitation unit, so a remote placement was a big change. I have enjoyed the autonomy and learning about big picture ideas that affect me daily in my role. It’s key learning for my career.

My mind has been opened to the extent of job opportunities available and the diversity of placements, development of non-clinical skills, research skills as well as, networking and time management.

The experience has really opened what leadership can be, expanded my thoughts on where my career can go and my understanding the role of other health bodies such as HEE and their impact on patient care. I feel it’s a great opportunity for students to learn and develop and I would recommend it.

One other factor that I enjoy about my apprenticeship is the openness to work collaboratively. I get to be influenced and be the influencer for other apprentice students around me.
