New webpages support the region’s unique foundation school

20 March 2023

The new webpages will help to promote the foundation school and support its postgraduate doctors, dentists, pharmacists and physician associates in the east of England.

The school is the first in the country to take a multiprofessional approach to learning in the foundation years and there is significant national interest in its progress and results.

The east of England multiprofessional school has been created to support the development and learning of first year foundation trainees.

Multiprofessional working broadens understanding and increases collaboration in the earliest years of training which can result in improved and more personalised patient care.

Working as a multidisciplinary team can also improve job satisfaction and morale through sharing of knowledge, enhancing skills and collaborating on shared projects with an emphasis on patient care.

Helen Johnson, Health Education East of England Deputy Dean for Multiprofessional Foundation Schools said:

We are excited to be the first multiprofessional school in the country. There are many commonalities across the curricula, so bringing together trainees in the earliest post graduate years allows for shared learning objectives and professional competencies. The approach gives the opportunity to share resources and facilities and create communities of practice centred around the locality footprints.

It is intended that multiprofessional learners will also have an opportunity to follow a patient journey throughout the health system, working with multidisciplinary team colleagues and explore partnerships working with non-NHS organisations.
