Educators enjoy return to face to face meeting

We recently ran two conferences for our educators across the Midlands region.
East Midlands
The East Midlands Educator Conference took place on Wednesday 12 October in Leicester, with over 100 delegates made up of Heads of Schools, Training Programme Directors (TPDs), Directors of Medical Education, and Medical Education Managers, along with other colleagues across HEE. The keynote speaker was Professor Sir Jonathan Van-Tam who provided a riveted audience a retrospective look back at the management of Covid 19.
Workshops included:
- Teaching clinical reasoning.
- Critical factors.
- Experiences of international medical graduates.
- Social media.
- Enhance.
- Neurodiversity.
- Academic Medicine.
- A reflective look at ‘What HEE has done for you’.
We also included a demonstration on immersive technology for education by our TPD for enhanced learning.

West Midlands
The West Midlands Educator Conference took place on Friday 14 October in Coventry, with around 150 delegates made up of Heads of Schools, Training Programme Directors (TPDs), Directors of Medical Education, and Medical Education Managers, along with other colleagues across HEE. The keynote speaker was Tom Kirkbride, HEE Midlands Regional Director, who spoke about HEE’s future within the new NHS England.
Workshops included:
- Trainers in difficulty.
- The ARCP process and advice on how to avoid appeals.
- Supporting doctors new to the NHS.
- Neurodiversity.
- Enhance.
I have to say it was great for members of my team to get out and about and run these large events – events I believe really showcase some of the great work my team manages throughout the year. We received great feedback during and after each of the events, and look forward to organising next year’s as part of the new NHS England - Gerard O'Reilly, Regional Faculty Support Lead, Midlands
