New members wanted: Midlands AHP student council

The Midlands allied health profession (AHP) student council is fast approaching its first birthday and is looking for new members to represent the student voice within region.

This is a chance to raise issues that you are passionate about, while gaining leadership and decision-making skills and working closely with other like-minded students and qualified AHPs in the region.Students studying an AHP pre-registration programme at a higher education institution within the region are invited to apply.

Membership in the council lasts a minimum of 12 months, and you will need the permission of your academic tutor to participate.

Being on the council is a fantastic way to meet other AHP students from different universities, and to understand more about how their courses run. There are 15 degree-level AHPs recognised by NHS England:

  • art therapy;
  • drama therapy;
  • music therapy;
  • occupational therapy;
  • speech & language therapy;
  • podiatry;
  • dietetics;
  • operating department practice;
  • orthoptics;
  • osteopathy;
  • paramedicine;
  • physiotherapy;
  • prosthetics and orthotics;
  • diagnostic radiography and;
  • therapeutic radiography.

Want to learn more about the AHP student council? The team will be running 30 minute drop-in sessions, giving you the chance to ask questions and learn more about the council, how it runs, and what is expected of members. The sessions are:

  • Monday 9 October, 12:00
  • Tuesday 10 October, 12:30
  • Wednesday 11 October, 14:00
  • Thursday 12 October, 14:00
  • Friday 13 October, 12:00

  • Tuesday 17 October, 12:30
  • Thursday 19 October, 12:30
  • Friday 20 October, 12:30
  • Wednesday 25 October, 12:30
