Meet the OD team

5 July 2022

This month we introduce you to our fantastic organisation development team, who through the pandemic and beyond have been a huge support for colleagues across the north west. We took the time to find out more about what the team does and how the two members of the team feel about their roles.

Learning and development is the secret weapon to creating the ideal workforce and workplace. I believe employees are an organization's most valuable asset! Therefore, helping others to achieve their full potential is extremely rewarding. It is not only beneficial to them and a wonderful act; it also makes ourselves happier and healthier

Monika Maj,Business Support Programme Coordinator – Organisational Development (OD)

I really love seeing people develop, grow and fulfil their potential and to lead on Organisational Development in the Northwest fills me with pride. My 5 year old daughter asked me what I do in work and I had to think of something that a 5 year old understood, so I said: I help people do their job and make sure they’re happy whilst doing it and she said that’s beautiful daddy, and it really is.

Steve Maddocks, Regional Business Manager

Can you explain what the purpose of your team is?

Organisational Development is planned and systematic approach to enabling sustained organisational performance through the involvement of its people. It is centred around facilitating change within the organisation through a holistic and humane approach that puts people at the heart of the process. It is the work of enabling organisational success, by aligning structural, cultural, and strategic realities of work to respond to the needs of an ever-evolving business climate.

As team OD we want to play a role in working with managers and colleagues to develop the organisation to achieve its goals. Our role is to diagnose underlying issues, challenges and opportunities, and to select the best approaches to develop the organisation moving forward.

What are your priority areas of work?

In the last 12 months since the team was established, our focus was on creating a one-stop-shop with all OD related resources for our teams in north west. Our OD SharePoint site has now got over 60 resources gathered in one place for our colleagues to access.

Our priority areas of works include:

  • Learning and Development
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Culture
  • Inclusivity
  • Recognition
  • Talent

Looking forward our priorities include a continued work with our teams and embedding organisational development plans at team level as well as working with NHSE to adopt the scope for growth model around career conversations.  We are also currently working on providing coaching and mentoring services and job shadowing opportunities for colleagues in the north west region.

How do you work across the north west region?

Our ‘customers’ are internal facing so most of our work is done in collaboration with other teams including the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and the Diversity, Inclusion and Participation team (DIP).

What it is that you can help with?

We can assist colleagues with queries related to any of the above listed areas of work such as Learning and Development or Health and Wellbeing. We can also help to source opportunities for people to practice their newly acquired skills through initiatives such as job shadowing, coaching and mentoring.

What is the best way to contact you?

The best way for external colleagues to reach is to email us directly Stephen.Maddocks@hee.nhs.uk and Monika.Maj@hee.nhs.uk
