National BAME Health and Care Award shortlist

5 October 2023

Well done to Samantha Hosten, the North West’s EDI Programme Manager in the Workforce, Training and Education Directorate, who was a runner up for a National BAME Health and Care Award in the Compassionate and Inclusive Leader category.

The Compassionate and Inclusive Leader category is aimed at individuals who create a culture where staff feel safe to be themselves and where everyone feels inspired to achieve their best.

“It's a real honour being recognised and nominated for this reward, it was so unexpected. I am passionate about my work, what satisfies me the most is seeing the results and impact on others. Seeing growth and change in the people I work with means so much to me. Creating opportunities for staff to progress in their career is extremely gratifying, I hope more staff have access to programmes that develop and grow their career aspirations. All staff regardless of their background should have access to developmental initiatives, feel supported, and valued within the workplace, said Samantha.

Samantha was nominated by Anthony Nichols who at the time was Head of Inclusion for the North West and is now leading the national EQIA process supporting the change programme and other EDI initiatives.

“I’d like to thank Anthony for nominating me, I’m in my element because I’m making a difference and driving change. My life’s motto is ‘determined to make a difference in the life of others’. I'm a nurturer, compassionate and caring. Hopefully I'll be able to continue with this momentum and deliver programmes that supports staff progression for under-represented groups.”
