North West leaders visit endoscopy academy to observe training

3 January 2023

Dr Michael Gregory, North West Medical Director and Deborah Mitchell, North West Regional Diagnostics lead visited the state-of-the-art endoscopy simulation site to experience training course established by the North West Endoscopy Academy at Liverpool John Moores University.

Deborah Michell said “it was an absolute pleasure and extremely interesting session. The hard work and access to training is testament to the university and networks collaboration to support access and provide excellent standards for our patients."

The North West Endoscopy Academy commissioned three endoscopy gastrointestinal bleed and non-technical skills courses hosted by Cheshire and Merseyside Endoscopy Network. The three courses delivered education and training to 18 endoscopists, 19 staff nurses and 7 training leads.

The training received positive feedback with one attendee saying “it was an excellent course with excellent facilitators who made you feel at ease. The practical parts in the clinical skills lab were very good especially if you are news to endoscopy, or experience staff who do not do these procedures often."

The North West Endoscopy Academy continues to lead the way on innovative training and support of our future workforce, with collaboration from trusts and Higher Education Institutes across the region.
