North West Nursing & Midwifery Student Council launched

3 March 2023

The first meeting of the North West Nursing & Midwifery student council was held in January 2023. There are currently 60 pre-registration students on the council.  All 10 north west universities, fields of nursing and midwifery and years of programme are represented and is supported by a lecturer from each university. Listening to students and giving them a voice is fundamental to meeting the objective of ensuring the workforce of today and tomorrow has the right skills, values, and behaviours, in the right numbers, at the right time and in the right place.  The north west student council acknowledges the value of pre-registration nursing and midwifery students as key stakeholders.

The student council aims to:

  • To listen to, acknowledge and empower the nursing and midwifery student voice as a collective force for development and improvement in matters relating to training and education.
  • Be a point of reference, identify risks, challenges and opportunities and make suggestions on education and training.
  • Enable nursing and midwifery students to participate in and contribute to meetings and project work relating to education and training developments.
  • Nurture and develop student nurses and midwifes as inspirational role models and influencers to drive education initiatives.
