ASPIRE programme welcomes new learning disability students

31 July 2023

In partnership with Plymouth Marjon University, our south west nursing and midwifery team has funded and developed an innovative postgraduate programme to attract individuals to pursue a career in learning disability nursing.ASPIRE programme route. Text reads - ASPIRE Programme - Postgraduate Pre registration nursing - registered nurse

The programme was featured on BBC Spotlight last month and is welcoming 32 students in 2023, with local employers providing employment, placement and supervisory support.

It is nationally and regionally acknowledged that there has been a decrease in the number of registered learning disability nurses, despite increasing demand for them.

The ASPIRE programme is helping to address this and offers postgraduate students the opportunity to pursue their career ambitions of becoming a Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registered learning disability nurse, meeting service delivery needs whilst also proving an opportunity to earn.
