Development of the South West Safe Learning Charter

Over 200 students, academics, practice educators and newly qualified staff working in secondary, primary and social care joined our successful multi-professional listening focus groups throughout December, January and February in the south west.

These events helped establish the development of the South West Safe Learning Charter, which will set out and clarify the expectations, rights and responsibilities of both students and clinical placement providers to ensure a positive experience for all.

The aim of these focus groups has been to develop an understanding and consensus on what ‘good’ looks like in clinical placements in the region. These successful focus groups helped us understand when things have worked well and positive experiences that have assisted learning and development. From taking this approach, we are also exploring how things can be further improved and sustained moving forward.

Thank you to all those who participated by sharing their experiences and insights. We are now reviewing all the feedback as we start to draft the charter. Please look out for further information and updates in upcoming bulletins.
