MPharm launch event

29 September 2023

This month, our Regional Head of Pharmacy, Nick Haddington, spoke at the University of Bath MPharm Pharmacy degree at the University of Plymouth Launch Event to set out the unique nature of the pharmacy workforce challenges in the South West and how this new degree is a key part of mitigating these.

The University of Bath MPharm Pharmacy degree at the University of Plymouth, initiated by NHS England, has been set up to increase the number of pharmacy graduates in the South West of England to meet a long-standing workforce need.

The launch event formally announced the collaboration between the two universities and NHS England. The audience consisted of a range of stakeholders who will be critical to the success of the project, including Regional Chief Pharmacists and Education and Training Leads who will host the students on placement. Both universities’ Vice Chancellors shared their visions for the future of this innovative joint work and stated their commitment to the success of this project.

The Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for England also attended the event, outlining the national context for pharmacy and pharmacy services, the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan and how the education pipeline is critical for delivering these.

The course is due to begin in the academic year 2024/2025, with a cohort of 25, building to a steady state of 40. Visit the course page and watch the promotional video for more information.
