South west workforce transformation team kickstarts the year

28 February 2023

The south west workforce transformation team is a key function of HEE, supporting the development of a workforce responsive to changes in healthcare now and in the future.

Workforce transformation is a process, driven by improving the way we recruit, retain, deploy, develop, and continue to support the healthcare workforce, to meet the growing and changing needs of local populations, ensuring high quality care for the patients of today and the future.

Here are just some of the activities our team has been involved with over the past month to kickstart the year:

  • Thinking and Creative Space –  This event was organised by the Workforce Intelligence and Transformation Network (WITNe). Emma Hallewell, Workforce Planning and Insights Lead from NHS Dorset, delivered a one-hour informal session utilising the WITNe membership expertise. Emma used this time to draw out what is needed for a system-level integrated workforce framework. The results will be fed back at a future WITNe meeting. If you would like to become a member of the network, then please complete this form.
  • HEE South West Integrated Planning workshops – The south west workforce transformation team continued supporting and participating in these workshops to enable conversations with NHS systems. This month, the team has worked with the HEE south west allied health professionals team and the Bath, North and East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board.
  • Strengthening Regional Engagement – The south west workforce transformation team joined in for HEE South West’s Strengthening Regional Engagement event with our workforce planning and intelligence team. The session enabled regional collaborative discussion on an approach to strategic integrated workforce planning and transformation that meets the needs of the population, the service and the workforce.
  • Scenario Planning 2035 tool – The south west workforce transformation team successfully launched the Scenario Planning 2035 Self-Assessment tool in Devon. The team is also working on growing the use of the tool across the region to support systems to develop their workforce strategies.

For those in the HEE South West Star Faculty Community of Practice, we hope you got the message that the meeting on Thursday 23 February was cancelled. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 23 March from 1pm until 2pm.
