HEE Public Health registrar receives a police commendation

23 July 2020

Just prior to lockdown we were delighted to congratulate Helen Christmas, a Public Health Specialty Registrar in Yorkshire and the Humber for being awarded a commendation from the Chief Constable of Lancashire Constabulary.

The commendation is in recognition of her dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to the National Police and Health Consensus Programme, in promoting and developing the consensus on an international stage and for enhancing the police and health network across the four nations. This includes the significant input and impact that Helen has had on forging a stronger relationship between public health, the College of Policing, the National Police Chief’s Council and senior leaders across policing and health disciplines.

Helen said, "I'm both proud and humbled to receive this commendation and grateful to the School of Public Health and the Future Leaders Programme in Health Education England (HEE) for the opportunity to work in such an exciting area".

HEE’s School of Public Health in Yorkshire and the Humber has a long history of working with blue light service partners and are delighted Helen has been recognised for her work embedding public health approaches within policing.

Helen is now in a placement with Hull City Council to continue her training and maintain the momentum of her success.

Public health specialty registrars continue to play a pivotal role in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Public Health specialists have the responsibility of promoting and improving the health of the population and tackling inequalities in heal. They do this through working across sectors on health promotion, disease prevention and planning health and social care services.
