Long term conditions

The NHS Long Term Plan sets out the ambitions for the NHS over the next 10 years, identifying cardiovascular disease, stroke and respiratory disease as a clinical priority. It also outlines how Health Education England and partners (including the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England, The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence and others), will work together to meet these ambitions.

You can find out more about the Long Term Plan by visiting the Long Term Plan website.

Our work

We are working with stakeholders and partner organisations to support the identification and creation of a standardised national and regional system reporting mechanism for the cardiovascular, stroke and respiratory workforce. This will help us look at workforce in terms of where we are now and what we need in the future to fill workforce gaps.

We are also exploring the support offer on cardiovascular disease, stroke and respiratory disease for the system on upskilling and knowledge and skills development, for example using HEE Star methodology to support workforce transformation.
