South West Mental Health Crisis Workforce Conference 2023

The south west WT&E Mental Health team welcomed a leadership group of over 80 passionate partners at our first South West Mental Health Crisis Workforce Conference.
Likeminded individuals came together to share innovative learning and best practices and celebrate its diverse workforce and their work to support people in mental health crises.
Partners included NHS crisis teams, emergency services and voluntary, community and social enterprise staff who initially joined us at our bi-monthly virtual forums.
A wide range of speakers from children and young people, adults, and older adult’s crisis services covered themes including:
- NHS England's regional and national updates.
- A multi-agency response to children and young people in crisis: health and social care.
- What support is available in the voluntary sector for young people.
- Updates on training offers from the Anna Freud Centre in London.
- Development of the CAMHS crisis pathway in Devon and the introduction of a managing risk training package.
- Improving training, awareness, and use of trauma-informed care within unscheduled care patients in the general hospital.
- Workforce projects, upskilling and development posts in older adult crisis teams.
- The introduction of a mental health scoping exercise and the spread and adoption of mental health transition programmes.
We will use the feedback of the conference from attendees to continue to shape the south west mental health crisis workforce forums and the overall work we do in this space within the region. Contact our team for further information.
• Everyone should be entitled to access urgent care when experiencing a mental health crisis and the relevant support for their families and carers.
• The mental health crisis workforce should be recognised as having individual training and developmental needs and supported accordingly.
