Placement expansion and innovation: Resources for the allied health professions (AHPs) in the UK
Alternative Supervision Models:
There are a range of alternatives to the 1:1, student/supervisor model such as multiple students to supervisors, coaching and collaborative learning models.

On-site clinics:
An “onsite clinic” is a setting that delivers health services, delivered by healthcare students under the supervision of registered AHPs, usually to the local community. Most of them are located at or close to university premises.

Role emerging placements:
Definition of role emerging placement (REP) AKA Contemporary Placements
These placements take place in an organisation that does not have an established AHP role and their AHP educator/supervisor oversees their experience from a separate host organisation. They are more common in occupational therapy education but are applicable across most allied health professions.

TECS (Technologically enhanced Care Services):
TECS placements which involve technologies such as telehealth, telecare, telemedicine, telecoaching and self-care apps as models of service delivery. These approaches have the potential to transform the way people engage in and control their own healthcare, empowering them to manage it in a way that is right for them. These are becoming commonplace in delivering a range of AHP services. It is important that students engage with this type of service delivery as part of their placement experience in order to equip them for the current and future workplace practices.

Simulation
‘Simulation is a technique to replace or amplify real experiences with guided experiences, often immersive in nature, that evoke or replicate substantial aspects of the real world in a fully safe, instructive and interactive fashion.’ Gaba DM.
