Early Years Postgraduate Dental Training Programme

A new model of undertaking post-graduate Dental Training via a two-year longitudinal programme across Dental Foundation Training and Dental Core Training Year 1, is under development. This model will provide broad-based training in secondary settings and primary Dental Care Services, enabling wider experience of managing complex care for more trainees and development of relevant transferable skills for their future career.

NHS England’s Dental Education Reform Programme is working to develop a consistent two-year Early Years Postgraduate Dental Training pathway, combining capabilities from Dental Foundation Training and Dental Core Training year 1. This new training pathway is intended to be complete by September 2024 and will broaden the experience of postgraduate dentists in training and support their career progression.

Work to date includes the procurement of a partner organisation to develop a new Early Years training curriculum and a stocktake survey of community Dental service providers to help us understand the landscape and potential future training opportunities. Further details to be updated as the programme progresses.
