Entry Requirements

For UK Students

I am a Registered Nurse, but not in adult nursing i.e. RNMH (mental health nurse), level RNLD (learning disabilities nurse), RNC (children’s nurse) etc. Can I undertake the Shortened Midwifery Training Programme?

No, to be eligible to undertake the programme you must hold a UK NMC Adult Nurse Registration (as directed by the NMC).

I understand that the conversion course is designed for adult nurses only. Would I be accepted as the first two years of my mental health nursing degree was integrated with all fields of nursing with a large focus on adult skills?

Unfortunately, there are no conversion courses for accreditation of prior experiential learning into midwifery. To be eligible to undertake the programme you must hold a UK NMC Adult Nurse Registration (as directed by the NMC).

I am in my final year of my nursing degree. Do I need to wait before applying until I have gained some clinical experience?

Most university courses require a minimum of 12 months experience as a registered nurse. These can differ so please check the relevant university entry requirements.

I am an Adult Registered Nurse but do not have an NHS Contract. Would I still be eligible to apply for the Shortened Midwifery Training Programme?

You are eligible to apply and recommend you contact your preferred university and placement provider to understand the programme commitment.

I am internationally educated; can I apply for the shortened midwifery training programme as I currently work as an adult nurse in the UK?
