Capability Framework for the Drug and Alcohol Treatment and Recovery Workforce

The capability framework for the drug and alcohol treatment and recovery workforce has now been launched and aims to support an additional £532m investment to expand and develop drug and alcohol treatment and recovery services, including the workforce, across England. The capability framework is intended for drug and alcohol treatment and recovery commissioners and service providers to ensure that their workforce has the required skills, knowledge and behaviours to enable services to deliver the rounded care and treatment required by their population.

The framework and the 10-year strategic plan for the drug and alcohol treatment and recovery workforce are intended to inform national, local authority and service provider workforce planning cycles for drug and alcohol treatment and recovery services over the next 10 years.

The framework marks a major milestone in the national drug and alcohol treatment and recovery workforce transformation programme. It will help to build a sustainable, multidisciplinary drug and alcohol treatment and recovery workforce, equipped with the capabilities and capacity to help people to reduce risk and initiate, sustain and strengthen recovery.
