Health Inequalities
Health Education England’s Health Inequalities webpage has been developed to enable access to resources that will empower healthcare learners and professionals through innovative education and training offers so they can improve health equity for the patients and the communities they serve.
HEE has worked with partner organisations to produce a wide range of digital resources. These can be used as standalone training tools or as part of blended learning packages to equip healthcare learners and professions with the knowledge and skills they need to address health inequalities.
HEE has a broader responsibility to reduce health inequalities and develop a workforce representative of the population we serve. Our 2022-2023 business plan outlines how this responsibility will be delivered through specific programmes of work. Please see the further links section below to access information about other work being led by HEE which is designed to contribute to a reduction in health inequalities.
The Population Wellbeing Portal (PWP) provides a central location for e-learning to deliver improvements in public health, prevention and wellbeing. Whatever your involvement is within improving the health of the population, these resources will support you in expanding your knowledge and understanding and enable you to have a positive impact.
The health inequalities programme found within the portal contains resources that can help workforces to learn about health inequalities, the effect of these on the quality and length of life of our populations and how sectors and communities can work together to tackle these.

A toolkit designed for colleagues working across integrated care systems, bringing together a broad range of health inequalities education and training resources. It is designed to inform and upskill healthcare professionals on the impact of health inequalities and how they can contribute to reducing them through their clinical practice.

In this article we speak to Dominic Patterson, National Clinical Advisor at Health Education England’s Technology Enhanced Learning Team about health inequalities in GP Training and the role of the Health Equity Fellowship. The Health Equity Fellowship Programme is part of the West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership Health Inequalities Academy.
The Population Health and Prevention team have launched an innovation fund to support local education projects demonstrating innovative approaches to upskilling workforces that improve population health and reduce health inequalities. Seven projects were awarded with funding to take forward their proposals and a summary report including the outcomes of six of the projects can be found by clicking here.
