Armed forces champions
This resource pack has been developed in the north west to assist NHS organisations, and more widely to support our armed forces community.
HEE has a mandate to support both veterans and reservists armed forces. In the north west, HEE asked each Trust and CCG to nominate a champion for Armed Forces and a HEE North West Armed Forces Champions Network was set up. The inaugural meeting took place in September 2016 and this resource pack was identified as a requirement by this network at that meeting.
You are free to use these resources as they stand, in your Trust or organisation. If you would like to add your organisation’s logo please contact info.nw@hee.nhs.uk and we can send you an editable copy. You must not remove the HEE branding. The images used in these resources cannot be used for other purposes for copyright reasons.
The directory was produced using the knowledge base of the Health Education England North West Armed Forces Network, to give a starting point of information for its members. It is not an exhaustive list of every organisation or resource available in this area; only those that network members are aware of, or actively work with. Inclusion of an organisation does not indicate endorsement by HEE, and we would recommend that members make their own enquiries to assess whether the organisations meet their specific needs.
A PowerPoint version of the directory is also available, alongside a number of other resources:

eLearning for Healthcare
eLearning for Healthcare (HEE’s online learning platform) is a high quality provider of online learning, free of charge for the NHS workforce across the UK. This includes an eLearning programme called ‘NHS Healthcare for the Armed Forces’ designed to highlight both the similarities and the differences to allow healthcare personnel to understand both the context of military life and also how to appropriately respond to patient need. The programme is broken into three broad areas – the NHS care of current serving personnel; the NHS care of families of military personnel and Veterans; and finally Veterans themselves. http://www.e-lfh.org.uk/programmes/nhs-healthcare-for-the-armed-forces/. Each e-learning session takes around twenty minutes to complete; the whole programme will take around two hours to complete. It is possible to dip in and out of sessions and to access them in any order, and as frequently as required.
Access is not restricted to NHS staff; various professional groups, including students as well as staff working in social care in England can register to access the content. Further details are available at http://support.e-lfh.org.uk/get-started/registration/.
Super Civvy Land
Moving from military to civilian life can be difficult for some, particularly for those that leave early. This stop-motion animated film, commissioned by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, illustrates some of the barriers faced by ex-service personnel as they move into civilian life, particularly those who leave the military early and/or involuntarily.
