Midlands Endoscopy Training Academy

We are delighted to announce the launch of the Midlands Endoscopy Training Academy.

In 2021, following the publication of the Richards Review for Diagnostic Services, a team made up of senior endoscopy clinicians, workforce leads in trusts, universities involved in endoscopy training, cancer alliance workforce leads,  Health Education England (HEE) and National Health Service Education & Improvement (NHSE&I)  came together to collaboratively design the model for a new Midlands Endoscopy Training Academy.

Academy Director/Clinical Lead: Dr Aravinth Murugananthan

I am a Gastroenterologist with specialist interests in Endoscopy training and therapeutic Endoscopy. I have been director of the JAG West Midlands Endoscopy Training Centre for the last 5 years and led the current revision of JAG certification pathways for lower GI endoscopy. I am the clinical lead for the HEE Clinical Endoscopist programme delivered via Birmingham City University. In addition, I am a key member of the JAG Endoscopy Training Committee, dedicated in the development and quality assurance of Endoscopy training.  I am also proud to provide my skills and experience as a JAG endoscopy unit assessor as well a professional clinical advisor to the National Bowel Cancer screening programme.

I am looking forward to developing the Midlands Endoscopy Training Academy with the rest of the teams involved. Although we are just starting this project, I have been struck by the passion shown by all involved thus far to develop and upskill Endoscopists, Endoscopy workforce and the wider supporting teams in Endoscopy."

Clinical Endoscopist Training Programme

The window to accept applications to the Clinical Endoscopist Training Programme has closed.

The Endoscopy Training Academy has had an overwhelming response with quality applications submitted across the Midlands footprint.

Endoscopy Administration and Clerical Competency Framework

The Midlands Endoscopy Training Academy (META) is supporting to upskill the Endoscopy Administrative and Clerical workforce through a competency framework.

The competency framework for 2023/24 is a pilot specifically designed to support, motivate and sustain the current and future workforce in Endoscopy.

The training will consist of online sessions delivered by Birmingham City University (BCU)  and participants are required to attend 4 weekly sessions to complete their training.

Please see the attached flyer from BCU with details about the framework including the training dates and how to register.
