Does this mean you are going to cut posts in some areas?

Yes, in some specialties, some areas will see a reduction in HEE-funded training posts. The posts will be decommissioned and transferred to another region (donor region to gainer region), when the post becomes available (the trainee has gained CCT and/or completed training). Nationally, there will be no overall loss of posts in any specialty, but the total number will be redistributed equitably, as per the guided methodology.

The redistribution programme is working closely with the recruitment teams at HEE and if an expansion within a specialty does take place, such as the additional posts received related to cancer specialties, then we will look to ‘level up’ in post numbers in all areas that are guided to receive additional posts. This would mean that donor regions are impacted as little as possible.

The distribution methodology has been carefully developed to provide a guided distribution of current post numbers along with the HEE-funding resource attached to those posts. This is reflected in the pace of change for each specialty.
