NHS pharmacy technician workforce expansion programme delivers success
We are pleased to announce that 1512 PTPTs have now been funded as part of NHS England’s pharmacy technician workforce expansion programme, achieving the ambition of funding training for 1500 PTPTs to support the development of the pharmacy technician workforce pipeline.
Following this achievement, cohort 5 (2023/24) will be the last cohort of trainees funded by this programme.
Since the initial pilot in 2019/20, PTPTs funded as part of this programme, have contributed to the successful growth of the pharmacy technician workforce pipeline. This programme has also ensured that significant numbers of pharmacy technicians are available to deliver the new service models set out in the NHS long term workforce plan, while also equipping them with a broader skill set, improving their understanding of transfer of care issues, and allowing them to better support service delivery to patients and the public across all healthcare systems.
On behalf of the NHS England pharmacy team, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your positive support with the pharmacy technician workforce expansion programme over the last four years.
