Continuous Professional Development

In Public Health, the overall aim of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is to ensure that those who work in the field develop and maintain the necessary knowledge, skills and attributes to practise effectively and work towards improving the health of the population.

CPD is a core part of the Good Public Health Practice Framework and a requirement of many professional bodies including FPH, UKPHR, GMC including for revalidation.

CPD requirements for registered Practitioners and Specialists will vary depending on your professional regulator.  It is a registrant’s personal responsibility to keep their learning and development up to date.

This page will act as a source of information for CPD opportunities that are available through the South West Population and Public Health Academy for all Public Health Professionals.

Routes to Specialist Registration

Specialty Training Programme – more information about recruitment to the Training Programme can be found on the Severn Postgraduate Medical Education website.

Practitioner registration

HEE in the South West supports the public health practitioner scheme and practitioner development. The Practitioner scheme is recruited to four times a year.  Practitioner applications are invited following the delivery of our quarterly introductory webinars which provide an overview of the scheme and the support available.
