Learner health and wellbeing

The 2016/17 Mandate between the Department of Health and Health Education England recognised the requirement to support learners with their health and wellbeing.

Whilst there is a wealth of practical resources addressing individual aspects of healthy working available, for trainees these can be hard to navigate and are widely scattered.

Mind, Body and Soul empowers trainees and learners with information and tools to improve their own health and wellbeing. We hope that by collating these resources in one place, it will be easy to find the materials most useful to you.

Initiatives in south London

British Dietetics Association nutritional wellbeing pilot

The British Dietetics Association ‘Work Ready’ programme supports organisations to provide high quality, healthy food at work. Their first healthcare-related pilot is currently underway in the emergency department at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for healthcare professionals in training

This initiative aims to develop a sustainable group programme for building resilience, increasing sense of purpose and meaning, and reducing psychological stress for health professionals in training. This is achieved by a mindfulness-based intervention, specifically targeting the needs of trainees. This is currently being led by South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

GREATix

A growing initiative to change the paradigm on incident reporting. GREATix is an example of excellence reporting, based on recognising and learning from episodes of peer-reported excellence. This is currently being supported at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

If you or your local trust would like more information or want to share a good initiative, please get in touch via email at info.sl@hee.nhs.uk.
