Medical Distribution – Workforce Transformation Toolkit

As part of our wider work under the Medical Education Reform Programme to help address worsening health inequalities, the NHS is seeking to address the historic imbalance in investment in training places for Medical Specialty Training through a distribution programme of work undertaken over a number of years to ensure that the current and future NHS investment in numbers of medical specialists more closely aligns to population health needs across the country. Some areas will receive a greater share reflecting their populations healthcare need leading to more funded training places than in the past, compared to other areas where this investment share will better reflect their populations proportionate need. This adjustment will cause differing workforce issues to those services affected.

To support all services to optimise their workforce planning and design and ensure they have the best multi-disciplinary team set up to meet patient needs, HEE’s workforce transformation team have produced the following toolkit of resources. This will enable services to explore and better understand other workforce options. HEE also offer a wealth of workforce transformation tools (link to tool overview page) to support services with workforce transformation and redesign activity.

Below you will find links to a variety of different resources, including information on alternative roles, workforce transformation tools and financial tools.

If you have any resources you feel would be a useful addition to this page, or have any questions about the content, please email the Workforce Transformation team transformation@hee.nhs.uk
