Drug and Alcohol Treatment and Recovery Services Workforce Census
The National Drug and Alcohol Treatment and Recovery Services Workforce Report: England workforce data (2024) was commissioned as part of the Office of Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) and NHS England's (formerly Health Education England) Drug and Alcohol Treatment and Recovery Workforce Transformation Programme. It provides a snapshot of the workforce as of 30 June 2024, comparing the findings to two previous census years.
These census findings will help service providers and local authorities to compare their services and local authority level findings to national findings. This will help to identify local and service-level workforce development priorities. These findings will also inform the continued development of the joint OHID and NHS England's drug and alcohol treatment and recovery workforce transformation programme and future workforce training needs.
In 2022, 2023 and 2024, NHS Benchmarking Network conducted a drug and alcohol treatment and recovery services national workforce census on behalf of NHS England and OHID.
The reports analysed data across the following sectors in England:
- Local authority (LA)-commissioned adult and young people’s treatment and recovery providers in the voluntary, NHS, LA (services directly delivered by the LA), and independent/private sectors.
- LA commissioning workforce
- Lived experience recovery organisations (LEROs)
